Dennis Helfer was a Canada-based farmer, and Elaine Helfer, a Canadian woman are her parents. She has German, English and Swedish heritage. She went to William E. Hay Composite High School located in Stettler. The school was located at the farm of her family alongside her three sisters: Trena, Tammy and Tara. While standing in a queue at the theatre an scout from an agency for modeling was able to spot Helfer.
